Background: Emerging journalists can encounter trauma reporting as early as journalism school, and many—particularly Indigenous journalists—may enter the field with their own personal experiences of trauma. Analysis: This research uses a mixed methods approach, including a preliminary review of websites for journalism programs and feedback from Indigenous journalists and representatives of journalism programs, to examine the current state of trauma-informed journalism education in Canada. Conclusions and implications: Canadian journalism programs need to consider trauma-informed education and its design, particularly regarding Indigenous stories and issues, to adequately prepare their students for the field.
