This paper reports on a two-year study on developing and implementing an online system for integrating model United Nations (MUN) content into university-level language learning. The authors give an overview of model UN simulations and their utilization as learning tools and identify potential issues in their use in Japanese English language classrooms. Online MUN is proposed as a potential solution for some of these issues. The paper describes the two stages of the project, development and integration, and reports the findings of student surveys suggesting that Online MUN increased student confidence in and enjoyment of English-language presentations, and in some cases led to an increase in English-language media usage. Finally, the authors present a conceptual compass indicating how and when to toggle pedagogical design in MUN projects based on student needs.
