The Nikkei minority community in Peru is a vibrant national minority group formed by the descendants of Japanese immigrants who first arrived in 1899.Along with several other ethnic groups, they are part of the cultural diversity of Peru.As it happens in any ethnic group, the members of the Nikkei minority community have re-elaborated their ethnicity over time.Since no cultural group is homogenous, different conceptualizations about the groups ethnic identity are expected to coexist within this community.In recent years, younger generations are discussing newer perceptions of their identity and community, hinting a shift compared to previous generations, particularly through art.However, studies about this shift are still scarce.This article explores the most relevant characteristics of this generational shift to understand the new Nikkei challenges and requirements as a minority community, in the context of a cultural diversity approach by the Peruvian state.The main findings of this study were that most participants consider the Nikkei identity as an intrinsic Peruvian identity and that they consider themselves as being naturally diverse due to their cultural background.These are major findings in a context such as Peru, where the state is in the initial stages of elaborating public policies towards a diversity-based national identity.This study will contribute to a broader understanding of the complexity of the composition of cultural minorities.A deeper comprehension of how they self-perceive is essential for the strategies fostering diversitys accurate designing.Recent Shifts in Perceptions of Nikkei Identity Through the Eyes of Young Nikkei Artists in Lima, Peru(SAKATA-GONZLES) Recent Shifts in Perceptions of Nikkei Identity Through the Eyes of Young Nikkei Artists in Lima, Peru(SAKATA-GONZLES) Recent Shifts in Perceptions of Nikkei Identity Through the Eyes of Young Nikkei Artists in Lima, Peru(SAKATA-GONZLES)
