The article examines the key measures taken by the Leningrad City Health Department to ensure the epidemiological safety of the population during the siege of Leningrad in 1941–1944. Special attention is paid to the personal contribution of the chairman of the Leningrad City Health Department, F.I. Mashansky, to the organization of the work of district emergency anti-epidemic commissions, the formation of the institute of senior district specialists and the creation of reinforced canteens. Based on the analysis of archival material, a conclusion is drawn about the unique historical experience of Leningrad doctors in organizing an effective system of sanitary and epidemiological control, in particular, a system of sanitary quarantine and other measures to protect public health.
