We present the core concept and preliminary design of an advanced X-ray telescope-spectrometer. The instrument’s distinctive features include its compactness, relative simplicity of manufacturing, and the capability to simultaneously obtain spectral and spatial information about the soft X-ray emission from the solar corona. The RESPECT telescope-spectrometer is being developed for deployment on board the Elektro-M spacecraft. However, an alternative design currently exists, adapted for installation on small spacecraft—specifically, 6U and larger CubeSat-class nanosatellites. The instrument will acquire images and spectra in the energy range of 1 to 10 keV with a spatial resolution of 30 arcsec or better.
