Elevator overloading is a major safety concern that can lead to mechanical damage, system failure, and passenger accidents. Conventional elevator systems depend on basic safety switches and manual supervision, which do not provide accurate or continuous load monitoring. This paper presents an IoT-based Overload Detection System for Automatic Elevators that ensures real-time weight measurement and automated safety control. The system employs a strain-gauge load cell with an HX711 amplifier connected to an ESP32 microcontroller to continuously monitor elevator cabin load. When the measured weight exceeds a predefined safety threshold, the controller automatically stops the elevator motor, activates an audible alarm, and displays an overload warning on an OLED display. The ESP32 also uploads live load data, system status, and operational logs to a Firebase Realtime Database, enabling remote supervision through a web or mobile dashboard. The proposed solution improves passenger safety, reduces mechanical stress, and supports intelligent elevator monitoring in smart buildings.
