Building collapse remains a major challenge in developing countries, especially in Sub-Saharan Africa. The continuous reports of collapsed buildings most especially in Lagos state of Nigeria needs to be checked urgently where many lives and properties have been lost in the collapse of buildings since each building collapse phenomenon carries along with it tremendous effects that cannot be easily forgotten by any of its victim. Building collapse has become, perhaps, the most challenging debacle in Lagos metropolis. This paper examines the increasing incidences of building collapse/failure in Lagos, reasons for building failures or collapse in Lagos metropolis, the paper also describes the context of Lagos metropolis and reviews literatures on building collapse in Nigeria. The research also involves qualitative analysis of secondary data in terms of the historical data of past and recent collapsed buildings in Lagos related to Lagos metropolis on the subject matter – Building Collapse. The paper concluded with suggested recommendations and strategies for ameliorating the trend of the ugly occurrences in Lagos.
