The first NHC–Cu-catalyzed decomposition of formic acid (FA) is reported. In the presence of PhSiH 3 , only hydrogen is generated while CO 2 is captured by a silane species. The decomposition of an equimolar mixture of FA and an amine provided an equimolar mixture of H 2 and CO 2 . The efficiency of the catalysis showed to be strongly dependent on the nature of the amine.
Santoro et al. (Thu,) studied this question.
