This perspective highlights the change in scientific focus after the past millennium from basic science to application. It follows the history of elpasolites, which were redesignated as halide double perovskites from the research focus about 8 years ago. Previous experiments employed high resolution and low temperatures in order to understand electronic spectra. Currently, the focus lies in the potential uses of these materials, employing low‐resolution, room‐temperature spectra. Indeed, these systems promise many optoelectronic applications. However, the plethora of incorrect publications in recent years has highlighted the overburdened and lax reviewing of scientific publications in this area.
