It was intended to excavate a single trench, measuring 15m by 2.5m, targeting the alignment of the Fosse Way. However, due to the presence of previously unknown services, the original evaluation trench was split in to two. Trench 1 measured approximately 6m in length and 1.8m in width while Trench 2 measured approximately 12m in length and 1.8m in width. Works associated with the G.I. works included the monitoring of four machine excavated test pits (measuring approximately 3m in length and 0.8m in width) and five hand-dug test pits/window samples, measuring 0.5m in length and 0.5m in width. A programme of archaeological works comprising an evaluation and watching brief was undertaken by Cotswold Archaeology between March and April 2019 at Homebase, Pines Way, Bath, BANES. Two evaluation trenches were excavated and eight test pits and one window sample were investigated during the watching brief. Surfacing, possibly associated with a Roman road, was identified in the west of site. Deposits relating to 19th-century railway works were also identified. Levelling and madeground deposits were recorded across site, probably relating to the post-medieval industrialisation of the area.
