Investigations at Park Lodge revealed an interesting sequence of archaeological remains, which potentially dated from the medieval into the earlier post-medieval periods. Deposits of waterlogged peaty clay, which contained preserved wooden artefacts, as well as a small amount of medieval pottery, were present in relatively close proximity to two medieval mottes. These deposits were subsequently overlaid by a sequence of terraces, with associated brick-built walls, which probably represented the remains of a 16th - 17th century dwelling shown on a cartographic survey dated to 1775.
