The checkout phase in the large-scale retail sector is one of the critical points of the physical shopping experience. Cashierless payment technologies are expected to play a fundamental role in the checkout phase as they help by saving time and reducing queues. This study aims at investigating the acceptance and intention to use of the most prominent innovative solutions for a cashierless grocery store. The Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology is the theoretical framework taken as a reference for this study and is tested by means of a questionnaire sent to customers of a prominent regional supermarket chain in Northern Italy.
