A passivity based sliding mode controller-observer design scheme is proposed which achieves the output feedback stabilization of a realistic model of a switch-mode DC-to-DC power converter of the "boost" type. Suitable "damping injections" and "energy shapings" can be independently accomplished, via discontinuous feedback and discontinuous feedforward output injections, for both the regulated plant and the sliding mode observer error dynamics, respectively.
