Abstract This study presents a bibliometric analysis of research on the internationalisation of higher education (IHE) in Malaysia to map the field’s publication trajectory, thematic structure, and collaboration patterns. A total of 343 eligible articles were retrieved from the Web of Science (WoS) Core Collection and analysed using VOSviewer. The analysis examined publication trends, keyword co-occurrence, authorship patterns, institutional collaboration networks, and journal distribution. The findings reveal a substantial increase in scholarly output on IHE in Malaysia, with a marked rise beginning in 2012 and a publication peak in 2020. Keyword co-occurrence analysis identified “academic performance” as one of the most prominent and highly connected themes in the literature. Collaboration network analysis further indicates the emergence of regional research links involving Indonesia and Thailand in the post-2020 period. Overall, this study provides a systematic overview of the development of IHE research in Malaysia by identifying its dominant themes, intellectual structures, and collaboration patterns, while highlighting emerging topics and underexplored areas that may guide future bibliometric and thematic research investigations in the field.
