Abstract The core dilemma in the centennial exploration of unified field theory lies not only in theoretical construction itself, but also in the lack of a unified, objective and operable evaluation criterion. Different candidate theories, based on diverse ontological presuppositions and mathematical frameworks, have formed fragmented "academic islands", resulting in numerous theories that can neither be verified nor falsified, which severely hinders the progress of unified field theory research. Based on the Four Access Criteria for Theory of Everything (TOE) established by the W≡0 Global Topological Unified Field Theory, this paper upgrades these criteria from philosophical principles to an academically verifiable semi-quantitative system for the first time. Each criterion is derived into 2–3 operable secondary indicators with clear quantitative judgment rules, constructing a complete benchmarking verification methodology. On this basis, this paper selects 6 representative theories covering all mainstream paradigms such as geometric unification, gauge unification and superunification — Einstein’s Attempt at Geometric Unification, Kaluza-Klein Theory, the Standard Model of Particle Physics (as a local unification paradigm), SU(5)/SO(10) Grand Unified Theories, Superstring Theory and M-Theory, and Loop Quantum Gravity — for systematic benchmarking verification. Through objective and neutral item-by-item scoring and defect analysis, this paper draws a two-dimensional positioning map of candidate unified field theories, clarifying the historical status, core value and fundamental defects of various theories. Research shows that none of the existing mainstream theories fully meet all Four TOE Access Criteria: locally accurate theories (General Relativity, the Standard Model) perform excellently in experimental connectivity but lack axiomatic unification; mathematical structure exploration theories (String Theory, Loop Quantum Gravity) achieve breakthroughs in mathematical self-consistency but lack experimental testability; historical pioneer theories (Einstein’s Geometric Unification, Kaluza-Klein Theory) provide important ideological inspiration for subsequent research but fail due to the limitations of their era. The TOE access criteria and benchmarking verification system established in this paper provide an objective "ruler" for unified field theory research, helping to clarify research directions, avoid invalid exploration, and provide a reference frame for the academic positioning of the W≡0 Unified Field Theory.
