Educational museum exhibits about 3D printing and additive manufacturing held by Science and Technology Museums are giving the public a firsthand look at the “third wave industrial revolution.” In the area of Art and Natural History Museums, the use of 3D printing technology (printing and scanning) extends both to the replication and restoration of artifacts for on-site display and to the educational mission of the institution with outside delivery of their artifacts and research to their patrons.
