On the 9th June 2025, a programme of groundworks associated with the construction of a single-storey extension to the front of Raven Hall Hotel was undertaken. The development involved trenching, which could have impacted below-ground archaeological remains. To mitigate such losses, an archaeological watching brief was requested by the North York Moors National Park Authority as an attached condition of planning approval. Apartment Group commissioned LS Archaeology to undertake the archaeological monitoring. Archaeological evidence predating the modern period was not observed in this location. This was an area to the immediate front of the hotel, comprising a formal lawned area. A buried former garden horizon was present, and this may be associated with landscaping that occurred sometime between 1829 and 1845 whilst the property was under the ownership of Rev.Dr. Richard Willis.
