This skills audit was conducted within the Department of Public Works and Infrastructure (DPWI) to support the organisation's commitment to developing a skilled and capable workforce. This initiative aligns with broader national directives, including the call in the State of the Nation Address to professionalize the public service and achieve the goals of the National Development Plan (NDP) 2030. The primary objective of this skills audit is to assess the current skills profile of the Intergovernmental Relations (IGR) Branch, identify key skills gaps and training needs relative to the branch's mandate to coordinate and harmonize the department's activities across all spheres of government, and provide recommendations for targeted skills development interventions. This audit focused on staff at the Middle Management Service (MMS) and Senior Management Service (SMS) levels within the IGR Branch. The data was collected using a customized survey administered via an online platform between February and March 2025. The participation rate was a high 90% (18 out of 20 officials), ensuring the findings are highly representative of the branch. It must be noted that this executive summary contains only a fraction of the nuanced analysis detailed in the full report.
