This paper explains the development of volunteer groups related to the special needs of people with AIDS. Particular attention is given to the kind of activities and issues that arise in volunteer support and training groups. Using the insights of small group theory and understanding of the types of problems faced by victims of AIDS to support themselves in the community, volunteers are helped to work more effectively with persons afflicted with this disease.
