Purpose: An attempt to establish a connection between music preferences and self-identification of young people in social space. Methodology: The work is carried out with application to general scientific methods of the public phenomena knowledge (the analysis, analogy and comparison) with a support on methodological provisions and conclusions. Such understanding demanded application of system approach. Results: Research allows to make a number of conclusions which allow to prove idea, that there is a connection between music preferences and self-identification of young people in social space. Practical implications: The study is interesting for specialists in sociology of culture and music theory, provides a new look at the problem of teaching music for youth.
