Although it has long been thought that moral development is amongst the more important tasks of teaching, not much is known about how teachers go about it. Using teacher manner as a proxy for the moral development activities of teachers, I describe six different activities teachers use to foster moral development in their classrooms. Surprisingly, the modelling of moral behaviour is not amongst them, not because it is not done but because it is interwoven in complex ways into the other six.
