Research generated by the Korman self-consistency motivational hypothesis is reviewed. Thirty-three studies are cited, with most field study evidence supportive. Laboratory research has resulted in mixed findings, but this may be due to methodological problems. An extension accounting for changes in motivational processes over time is proposed.
