The continuous cyclical load disturbances can lead to forced power oscillations of power systems. Based on the single-machine infinite-bus system, the differences in the energy conversion characteristics between the forced power oscillation and the weak damping free oscillation are analyzed and the mechanism of the forced power oscillation caused by cyclical load disturbances is presented. Using energy functions with the linear equations of motion of the rotor, the basic principles to identify the cyclical load disturbance source location of the forced power oscillation are analyzed in energy perspective. The simulation results of the New England 10-machine 39-bus system indicate the feasibility and validity of the proposed method.
