elisabeth bronfen is Professor of English and American Studies at the University of Zurich. Her books include Home in Hollywood: The Imaginary Geography of Cinema (Columbia University Press, 2004), The Knotted Subject: Hysteria and Its Discontents (Princeton University Press, 1998), and Over Her Dead Body: Configurations of Femininity, Death, and the Aesthetic (Routledge, 1992). She is the coeditor, with Misha Kavka, of Feminist Consequences. Theory for the New Century (Columbia University Press, 2000). Currently, she is working on a cultural history of the night as well as a book on Hollywood war movies.
