Abstract Objectives This commentary explores the importance of research literacy among registered dietitian nutritionists (RDNs) as a strategy to strengthen evidence-based practice (EBP) and elevate their role in healthcare. Background Despite being recognized as nutrition experts, RDNs face systemic challenges, such as limited reimbursement, restricted scope of practice, and misconceptions, about their expertise. These barriers may hinder their ability to influence clinical decisions and advocate for optimal patient care. Results Evidence indicates that research literacy among RDNs is often low, with gaps between perceived and actual knowledge. Variability in educational preparation and limited access to resources further exacerbate these challenges. Strategies to improve research literacy include standardizing EBP competencies across training programs promoting professional development through continuing education, journal clubs, and engagement in research activities. Conclusion Strengthening research literacy is essential for RDNs to justify clinical recommendations, enhance credibility, and improve patient outcomes. This commentary underscores the need for consistent education, ongoing professional development, and systemic support to integrate EBP into dietetics practice.
