The fire detection system based on infrared sensors has been deployed in the Seikan Tunnel to prevent a serious accident caused by a train fire. To support this work, we studied the application of an infrared camera in anticipation of future upgrades to the fire detection system. In this study, we examined the specifications of candidate infrared cameras and verified that the imaging system was able to cover the entire side of target trains using a wide-angle lens. We also analyzed seasonal variations in thermal images and evaluated the accuracy of temperature measurements for high-temperature objects.
