In this paper, I suggest that technology can be used actively as a vehicle for organisational learning and change. My approach is one where work and the use of computer technology is studied from an action research perspective. This idea is illustrated by experiences from an ongoing project with the Danish National Labour Inspection Service. I discuss how ethnomethodology and activity theory, in particular the Finnish tradition of work development research, has informed our praxis, and the problems and challenges we have seen with their application in our area.
