Higher engagement in session completion (B=0.52), self-monitoring (B=0.66), and social interactions (B=0.59) was independently associated with higher physical activity goal attainment (all p<0.001).

Are session completion, self-monitoring, and social interactions associated with physical activity goal attainment in women Veterans participating in a virtual Diabetes Prevention Program?
Higher engagement in session completion, self-monitoring, and social interactions is independently associated with greater physical activity goal attainment in women Veterans enrolled in a virtual Diabetes Prevention Program.
Effect estimate: B = 0.52 (session completion), B = 0.66 (self-monitoring), B = 0.59 (social engagement)
p-value: p=<0.001
Introduction and Objective: The Diabetes Prevention Program’s (DPP) standardized goal of ≥150 mins of physical activity (PA)/week leads to long-term health benefits. We examined the association between virtual DPP PA goal attainment and three distinct program engagement components: session completion, self-monitoring, and social interactions. Methods: We included women Veterans participating in virtual DPP across 11 VA sites with 6-month follow-up. We categorized engagement as: 1) session completion (# of online modules/videos watched, range 0-32); 2) self-monitoring (# of weeks with weight logging, range 0-26); and 3) social interactions (# of weeks with direct message to coach and/or comment post, range 0-26). Using linear regression, we modeled # of weeks with PA goal attainment (via self-report logs or uploaded activity tracking data) as a function of each engagement measure, adjusting for age, BMI, ethnicity, race, A1c, and presence of any mental health diagnosis or any chronic pain diagnosis. Results: Women participants (n = 370) were on average 51 years old (SD 11) and had a BMI of 34.5 kg/m2 (SD 6.5). They completed a mean of 10 sessions (SD 8.6), 13 (SD 10) weeks of self-monitoring, and participated in social interactions during 6.2 weeks (SD 5.8). On average PA goal was attained in 7.6 weeks (SD 9.4). Session completion (B = .52), self-monitoring (B = .66), and social engagement (B = .59) were all positively associated with PA goal attainment (all p .001). Conclusion: Higher engagement in session completion, self-monitoring, and social interactions was independently associated with higher PA goal attainment among women Veterans enrolled in a virtual DPP. Consistent with prior digital DPP literature, these findings suggest that promoting engagement across multiple program components may be critical for optimizing long-term PA outcomes in this population. WOOLDRIDGE et al. (Fri,) conducted a observational in Diabetes Prevention (n=370). Program engagement (session completion, self-monitoring, social interactions) was evaluated on Number of weeks with physical activity goal attainment (B = 0.52 (session completion), B = 0.66 (self-monitoring), B = 0.59 (social engagement), p=<0.001). Higher engagement in session completion (B=0.52), self-monitoring (B=0.66), and social interactions (B=0.59) was independently associated with higher physical activity goal attainment (all p<0.001).
