Detailed studies of specimens from Rondônia and Mato Grosso do Sul showed that two new species have been misidentified: Calea micropappa resembles Calea pilosa , but differs by leaf apex obtuse to acuminate (versus acute), paleae present (versus paleae absent), disc corolla lobes 1.2–1.3 mm long (versus 0.7–0.8 mm), and pappus scales 0.1–0.25 mm long (versus 0.8–1 mm). Calea sericea resembles Calea rupicola , but it is individualized by the indumentum sericeous in the stems, leaves, and first series of phyllaries (versus strigose, scabrid or hirsute), second series of phyllaries glandular‐punctate (versus absent), and 15–40 disc florets per capitulum (versus 60–75). These new species are described, illustrated, mapped, and their conservation status and taxonomic affinities are discussed. Thus, with these two new species described, Neurolaeneae now has 200 species and Calea has 170 species, 101 occurring in Brazil.
