This paper develops a conceptual framework of cognitive collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence as a condition for the emergence of higher forms of knowledge creation and for the development of a civilization of knowledge. In contrast to dominant approaches that treat artificial intelligence primarily as a tool for automation, optimization, or augmentation, the paper argues that humans and artificial intelligence, as two distinct cognitive systems, can establish a stable synergistic collaboration through which knowledge emerges as a new epistemic quality exceeding isolated cognitive contributions. To address a gap in existing research, the paper introduces a conceptual model of cognitive synergy in human–artificial intelligence knowledge creation. The model consists of complementary cognitive strengths, antecedent conditions, a central integrative process, and emergent epistemic outcomes under defined structural constraints. Its outcomes include emergent knowledge quality, epistemic coherence, reconfiguration of knowledge creation, and a synergistic knowledge creation regime. Such collaboration depends on alignment as a condition of relational stability, while ethical and legal responsibility remain human. The proposed framework has implications for scientific work, knowledge management, and decision-making, and provides a conceptual basis for the creation of a civilization of knowledge.
