WEINSTEIN1 has reported a case of acute benign pericarditis associated with infection due to Coxsackie virus Group B, Type 5. Evidence for the etiology was based upon a marked drop in titer of complement-fixing antibodies in serum specimens obtained consecutively after infection. Movitt et al.2 have described a case of benign pericarditis caused by Coxsackie virus Group B, Type 3. Virus was isolated from the stool in this case, and earlier samples of serum permitted the demonstration of a rise in antibody titer.
