He served as the Director of the Sulpizio Cardiovascular Center at UC San Diego Health from 2011 to 2015 and held the Edith and William Perlman Chair in Cardiology for over 25 years. He has authored over 180 papers in cardiology and contributed to research on cardiomyopathy, cardiac function, and regeneration.
