Abstract

This document examines how Nigeria's approach to reducing poverty has been refined by aligning its policies according to the global development goals. With a staggering 40% of its population struggling to make ends meet, Nigeria faces a daunting task in reducing poverty. This paper undertakes an in-depth analysis of the current poverty landscape in Nigeria, assesses the effectiveness of existing policies and governance structures, and proposes novel solutions to tackle this pressing issue. Key factors such as diversifying the economy, implementing social safety nets programmes, reforming the education system, and combating corruption are examined. Diversification of the economy, introduction of social security measures, reform of public schooling, and fighting against corruption are among other key issues also considered. By distilling current research and best practices, this review provides policy makers and stakeholders with a comprehensive blueprint for developing and implementing effective poverty reduction strategies. The findings stress the need for a multifaceted approach that addresses the underlying causes of poverty while promoting sustainable economic growth and social equity. The review contributes to the current discussions on poverty reduction in Nigeria and also gives practical suggestions towards attaining the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) come year 2030.
