The paper analyzes issues and indicators related to the functioning of the main means of production in agriculture, which is the basis for the production of agricultural products and food in general - agricultural lands in the Southern Federal District. An assessment of such indicators, including dynamics, as the total land area of the subjects of the Southern Federal District was carried out. An analysis of the dynamics of agricultural land areas, their share in the total land area of the subjects of the district was carried out. An assessment of the dynamics of forest fund indicators and its share in the total land area was given both in the Southern Federal District as a whole and in the context of its subjects.
