Strategic change, often clouded in ambiguity, can spur employee pushback. However, research shows that managers’ emotional awareness and ability to focus their attention can be critical factors in helping teams work through uncertainty and embrace experimentation. Team leaders who scored relatively highly on an assessment of mindfulness characteristics fostered exploration more skillfully and were better able to manage the ambiguity accompanying strategic organizational transformation.
