This paper presents the framework, methodology and results of a research conducted to document the impact of a number of barriers and motivators on secondary education teachers" decision to participate in training programs, according to teacher’s assessment. In addition, this study aims to record the level of participation of teachers in training programs as well as their perceptions about the necessity of training and the adequacy of the offered training opportunities. The survey was conducted in February 2019 using a quantitative methodology and the sample consisted of 207 teachers from Trikala Secondary Education. According to the results, although the teachers considered the training very necessary, they had a low level of participation, while they expressed moderate satisfaction of the training opportunities offered. The main motivators for participation in training are related to the characteristics of teachers and their professional development, while the main barriers are related to the characteristics of the offered programs.
