he study examines the issues related to the functioning of a term as a marker of interaction between professional discourse and the specialized terminological system. The influence of scientific discourse on the meaning of a terminological unit, its stability, or its ability to change within its system is analyzed based on professionally oriented medical vocabulary. The author presents the results of a collective monographic study dedicated to the scientific-theoretical parameters of Ukrainian medical discourse and the medical terminological system, where the term and its functional specificity serve as manifestations of their interaction. The communicative-pragmatic paradigm of the simultaneous existence of a term within both scientific discourse and the system of medical terms is identified as a relevant research focus. It is determined that under the influence of discourse, both the content and the functioning of a scientific term may undergo changes. The practical implementation of the study’s key findings is presented in terms of the normative use of terminology in contemporary medical written communication.
