The main objective of the article is to highlight the specificity of the term "traditional cultural expression" in comparison with other concepts related to traditional art, cultural memory, etc. The historical and comparative methods are the defining aspects of the approach, which undertakes an exploration of the terms "rite", "ritual","folklore","popular traditions" and "traditional cultural expressions". These concepts contribute to the creation of a research methodology of the contemporary cultural process and the epic, lyrical, and theatrical artistic discourse. The main area of interest and investigation is, particularly, the art of theatrical performance in the Romanian cultural space.
