The work aims to identify effective translation techniques applied when translating a memoir-biographical text from English into Russian. The article focuses on rendering syntactic features and figurative language in such texts from English into Russian. The scientific novelty of the research lies in identifying, based on significant factual material, trends in translation of syntax and figurative language of the original memoir-biographical text by means of the target language. As a result of the research, it was found that translation of syntactic features, stylistic figures, and tropes of an English-language memoir-biographical text into Russian is primarily subordinated to the tasks of preserving the coherence and flow of the narrative, conveying the author’s chronotope, constructing the story with a clear sequence of events without fragmentation of the text, and preserving the historical color and atmosphere of the work. To achieve this, taking into account the differences in the structure of the languages, the following translation techniques are most often used: selection of variant and contextual equivalents, addition, partial abandonment of the preservation of stylistic figures and tropes, compensation, and combining sentences. It was also revealed that most of the quotations in memoir-biographical texts are of non-precedent nature (both as statements of non-public relatives, friends, colleagues of the protagonist, and as remarks of famous personalities), therefore, the translator must provide their own translation of the quotations.
