: The article is devoted to the analysis of some aspects of the ethnodemographic behavior of the population of the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District. Namely, it characterizes the number and dynamics of the most numerous nationalities of the North Caucasus Federal District, their structure by three major age groups: children, parents, and grandparents. Based on the materials of the All-Russian population censuses of 2002, 2010 and 2020, the reproductive activity of women over the entire fertile period, as well as the level and dynamics of large families in the North Caucasus Federal District in the ethnic context, was assessed. Using the data from these censuses, we calculated the number of children aged 0-4 years per 100 women of fertile age (15-49 years). In the absence of current ethnodemographic statistics, the data obtained can be used for comparative analysis of the birth rate among individual nationalities. They vary greatly among the 17 most numerous peoples of the North Caucasus that we have studied. Our research results can be used in the study of the ethnogeographic situation and the development of demographic policy in the regions of the North Caucasus Federal District.
