The use of media for the development of the sociocultural component of communicative competence in the teaching of the French language

Learning a foreign language, such as French, goes beyond the simple accumulation of linguistic knowledge, including a socio-cultural dimension essential for the development of intercultural competences. Language reflects the values, traditions and way of thinking of a community, and familiarity with these aspects contributes to a genuine and deep understanding of cultural diversity. In the educational process, the integration of media resources - movies, shows, podcasts, videos or educational games - provides exposure to authentic language, increased motivation and opportunities for interactive learning. Activities such as viewing authentic materials, participating in debates, creating digital content or using press articles connect students to the contemporary realities of the Francophone space. For example, the analysis of French traditions and customs through video resources or virtual visits to museums develops intercultural sensitivity, respect for social norms and appreciation of the diversity of Francophonie. In addition, creating collaborative projects, such as vlogs or commercials, actively engages students, strengthening both language and cultural skills.
