Abstract Prediction of yield must have due regard for mortality, especially in the case of selective systems of silviculture. Knowledge of mortality as to extent and cause requires individual tree records for large areas and maintained over long periods. The author, with records extending from fifteen to twenty years, gives the result of his studies in the western yellow pine region of the Southwest.
