Abstract Italy has been striving since 1943 to restore her war-damaged forests and to effect a strong national forestry program. During this period, the Allies, through the Allied Commission and UNRRA Italy Mission, assisted in this tremendous task. This article includes a summary of early forestry developments in Italy, an estimate of World War II damage to her forests, and a resume of the forestry work undertaken by the Allied Commission and the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administation.
