The relevance of the work is due to the need to take into account the Soviet and post-Soviet experience of Russian history as one of the most important factors in patriotic education. The novelty of the work lies in the attempt to analyze the problem based on the materials of the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, an integral part of Russia, one of the 89 regions with a rich history of serving under the Russian banner. The article highlights the continuity of Russian history as the foundation of patriotic education in Ossetia-Alania. The multinational people of our country fought in not only liberation wars, but also performed labor feats, acts of selflessness and humanism, which made Russia’s foreign policy attractive to neighboring countries and peoples. Today, many events in Russian history are being misinterpreted, and there is an increasing campaign to distort history and rehabilitate Nazism. This makes it extremely important to analyze the events of those years. Based on the analysis of primary sources and literature on the subject, the authors consider the problems and draw certain analogies with some similar political and legal events that took place in world history, which allows them to formulate conclusions about the role and significance of history as a factor in the patriotic education of Russians.
