Abstract The global community is concerned with the pollution issue. Waste management policies have been established by certain local governments in Indonesia. This research analyzes the waste management policies of local administrations in the Java Island, including West Java, Central Java, East Java, Jakarta, and Banten Province, using Woldesenbet’s Waste Governance Theoretical Framework. A descriptive approach is employed in this qualitative research, which employs a policy approach. This research employs document study (content analysis) as its data collection method. This study examines numerous waste management regulations that are administered by local governments in Java Province. The findings indicated that DKI Jakarta, West Java, East Java, Central Java, and Banten implemented distinct methodologies. DKI Jakarta is the most collaborative, adaptive, effective, and integrated waste management model. In the interim, other provinces must enhance the enforcement mechanisms of regulations, incorporate market-based incentives, and increase community involvement to achieve more sustainable and effective waste management.
