This study examined the effect of urban transportationinfrastructure on economic activities in metropolitan areas ofEnugu State, Nigeria, focusing on its influence on improvedmarket access, reduction of business logistics costs, andenhancement of operating hours and productivity. Using astructured questionnaire, data were collected from 339respondents across key metropolitan areas. The PearsonProduct Moment Correlation Coefficient was employed to testthe hypotheses. Results revealed strong positive relationshipsbetween urban transportation infrastructure and improvedmarket access (r = 0.712), reduction of business logistics costs(r = 0.684), and enhancement of operating hours andproductivity (r = 0.732). The findings revealed that well-developed transportation infrastructure facilitates faster andeasier market linkages, lowers operational expenses, andsupports extended business operations, thereby boostingproductivity and overall economic performance. The studyunderscores the importance of investing in modern, efficient,and well-maintained transport systems to foster sustainableeconomic growth in Enugu State’s metropolitan areas. Itrecommends that policymakers and urban planners adoptintegrated transportation strategies that enhance accessibility,efficiency, and reliability, thereby strengthening the state’seconomic competitiveness.
