Objectives In this study, we discussed the ‘experience and meaning of family disconnection’ in the lives of a Christian counselor couple and understood how their lives continue within the overall context of life. Methods To this end, a study was conducted with a couple of Christian counselors living in Gyeonggi-do over a period of approximately two months from July 18 to September 13, 2022, through several interviews, emails, phone calls, and text exchanges. After receiving approval from the Bioethics Committee (22-01-03-0701), The study secured ethical consideration, validity and reliability of research participants, and ‘Entered the field’ based on narrative inquiry procedures (Clandinin & Connelly, 2006). The settings were ‘Constructing field text’, ‘From field text to research text’, and ‘Constructing research text’. Results In the experience of family rupture, a male counselor heard his wife criticize him as a ‘character-broken person’ after marriage, and the tremendous sense of defeat and shame within him revived, and he experienced a breakdown in language, emotions, and even a break in sexual relations between the couple due to feelings of anger. The female counselor said that the unstable attachment she developed with her parents during her childhood was also evident in her relationship with her husband after marriage, and whenever conflict with her husband arose, it led to a breakdown in language, emotions, and a breakdown in sexual relations between the couple. Conclusions First, the meaning of the counselor couple's experience of family disconnection is that family is the safest, but sometimes it remains a wound. Second, it was expressed in self-understanding, acceptance and respect. Third, I analyzed myself as a wounded healer and tool.
