Obesity-induced Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a growing global health concern marked by insulin resistance and elevated blood sugar levels. Lifestyle factors such as physical inactivity and obesity exacerbate the risk, necessitating weight management and healthy living. Ayurveda, viewing the condition as “ Madhumeha ,” attributes it to imbalanced Doshas (~regulatory functional factors of the body) and toxin (~ Ama ) accumulation, prescribing dietary changes, herbal remedies, and lifestyle adjustments for balance restoration. A 53-year-old female presented with Prabhuta mutrata (~excessive urination), Sthaulya (~obesity), and Sharira balakshaya (~diminished physical strength) indicative of Madhumeha, managed with the Ayurveda management protocol comprising Virechana karma (~therapeutic purgative therapy) followed by Shamana chikitsa (~palliative management) including Phalatrikadi ghanavati and Vidangadi lauha . After a duration of three months of management, the initial fasting blood sugar, postprandial blood sugar, and glycated hemoglobin were reduced. This case underscores the possible potential of Ayurveda management of diabetes, offering holistic approaches for improved outcomes.
