Examined in this article is Gukjo Sok-O’rye’ui-bo(國朝續五禮儀補, Supplementary Edition to the Dynastic Rituals for the Five Rites), compiled during King Yeongjo’s reign. The compilation went underway as Crown prince Sado(思悼) was governing the country on behalf of the king代理聽政, and the Crown prince’s son, Seson(世孫) Euiso(懿昭) was newly born. The inside of this edition remained the same as other Grand manuals for dynastic rituals, equipped with a preface/explanatory notes序例 as well as attached footnotes儀註. Contents were mainly for the Crown prince and his son, who would likely be named as the next Crown prince. Revisions and modifications for ritual protocols concerning the Crown prince and his son continued afterwards. Roughly half of what had been included in Gukjo Sok-O’rye’ui-bo was passed on to Gukjo O’rye Tongpyeon (國朝五禮通編, C omprehensiv e Compilation o f Dynastic R ituals f or t he F ive Rites) and Chun’gwan Tong’go(春官通考, Comprehensive Analysis from the Chun’gwan office), which were both compiled and published during King Jeongjo’s reign.
