Nora Volkow, M.D., the tireless director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), implored experts on a panel in Montreal last week to share insights on how to change the course of the overdose epidemic in the United States. Heading a lunchtime plenary subtitled “Advances in the prevention and treatment of addiction,” (the title was NIDAs 50th anniversary), Volkow led attendees at the College on Problems of Drug Dependence (CPDD) conference through a dialogue focused on how knowledge about addiction gleaned from basic science can be used for clinical practice.
